    Project management during works execution

    EDF is the operator of the hydroelectric plants on the Rhine bays of Marckolsheim, Rhinau, Gerstheim and Strasbourg and, as consequence, in charge of the maintenance and upkeep of the banks on these reaches.

    The work carried out consisted in protecting the internal side of the dikes, by preventing erosion by installing new riprap in order to:

    • restore mechanical protection in weakened areas;
    • re-establish banks with regular profiles (below and above the water level).

    The underwater works were carried out from a floating pontoon equipped with a mechanical shovel. The external works were carried out from the crest of the dike.

    The works lasted three years, on the left and right banks (on the German side).

    To check and validate the works and define the work to come, the water level was lowered by about 1 m at the end of 2010

        These various poles have a capacity of 690 beds; they are served by a medical technical support. The shared resources include 25 operations rooms, 2 MRI, 2 scanners, 10 X-rays imaging rooms, 5 ultrasounds rooms, 6 interventional imaging rooms for neurology and cardiology, 77 beds for intensive cares.

        The technical and functional links with other buildings are made by technical galleries and/or bridges.

        The landscape integration and the respect of beautiful site elements are 2 important qualities of the project.

                  This stadium has a capacity of 20.000 covered seats, and stands in the inner city (in the middle of a park), as it is replacing the former Charles Berty stadium. This
                  stadium is multipurpose-capable: football, rugby as well as events. Supported by a metallic frame, the transparent and round shapes of the roof have been built with wood purlins and glass. It minimizes the visual impact of the building and smoothes its integration in the urban landscape.

                  Thanks to an inner technical ring and an outer architectural one, all the functional units are laid under the stands.  Included in the design is the possible extension of 10.000 more covered seats. It will be feasible, with the addition of a balcony. The stadium includes a 1000 places buried parking lot which allows preserving the external planted area.

                  Designed per High Environmental Quality standards, the stadium benefits special treatment regarding sound quality and noise protection, and features environmentally selected building products including 1000 m² photovoltaic roof panels. Finally, this project includes specific urban facilities such as service roads and the extension of the C tramway line.

                    Overall management of structural works

                    The project includes a total floor area of 85,400 m², of which 26,500 m² are in superstructure and 58,900 m² in infrastructure and a car park of 550 places.

                    The structure required 34,400 m3 of concrete, 12,200 m² of masonry and 3,200 t of metal framework. The structure of the museum consists of two sloping ceilings and mezzanine floors of about 40 m wide and 250 m long, supported by bi-articulated metal “stilts”. The stability of both blocks of the museum is ensured by the concrete cores placed at the ends and the central metal pears. A 20 cm central expansion joint allows maximum non-throttled movement in case of emergency.

                    The roof of the museum, housing the restaurant and the library, consists of a deactivated concrete slab, accessible, of 10.000m² near the Seine and the Eiffel Tower.

                    The structure is protected against water ingress from the basement by a perimeter diaphragm wall with a maximum height of 30 m, recessed at its base in the sands of Bracheux and through a plastic clay layer thus forming a waterproof cap. All around, a clay merlon integrated into the landscape as well as the perimeter walls provide protection against a hundred-year flood of the Seine (with a security guard of 30cm).
