The Geneva International Airport has decided to modernize its facilities with a major enlargement of its “East Wing” to improve passenger comfort.

This project includes a 500 m long metal building of with high environmental quality with two levels and is coupled with a new “processor” building dedicated to the control of incoming and outgoing passengers.

The whole piece consists of an exo metal structure covering a service road and a 20,000 m² public space.

The overall energy mix is balanced thanks to the mobilization of geothermal probes, some equipment with low energy consumption and a photovoltaic power generation of about 1,600 MWh / year.

In this context, the route of the access road to the terminal from France (customs road) will be amended and this road partially buried.

The consortium including Rogers Stirck Harbour et Partners / Atelier J. Bugna / Ingérop Conseil et Ingénierie (in association with consulting engineers from Geneva including T-Ingénierie) were awarded the contract further to an international tender.

Ingérop South Africa (ISA) was appointed by Department of Water Affairs (DWA), to attend to the project for the raising of the Hazelmere Dam in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Raising of the Hazelmere Dam consists of the Design, Manufacture and Installation of Crest Gates and associated infrastructure. The project includes civil works to ensure the overall stability of the dam wall and provision for emergency overflow in case the gates do not open on time.

Description of Actual Services Provided by Ingérop South Africa Staff:

An investigation will be carried out to compare the different gate alternatives, namely radial gates or wheel type vertical gates, and to determine the best solution for Hazelmere. The Dam structure and its stability will be analysed. It will also be necessary to carry out an investigation to determine the extent and characteristics of the grout curtain below the spillway and NOC structures. Pressure relief holes and associated drainage will have to be checked and provided in cases where the existing systems have become blocked and / or ineffective.

        • All existing structures that are visible to the human eye will be inspected in detail to establish the condition in view of the required changes that will be evaluated.
        • With regards to Environmental Management, in accordance with the ROD a number of matters need to be dealt with.
        • Coordination of the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering contractor.
        • Assistance in bid and bid evaluation
        • Escalating the Tender Design, as finally defined in the approved Tender Design Report, to Detailed Design standard as well as the production of all drawings required for Construction stage.
        • Design standards of SANCOLD the South African leg of ICOLD are used.
        • Construction Monitoring.
        • Throughout all the above processes, as well as the ensuing phases of Commissioning and Assessment and Close-Out, we will maintain a Professional Project Management service over all aspects of the project.
        • The Commissioning process will be written into the contract for both the civil / structural contractor as well as the nominated gate contractor and the process of commissioning will be carried out under the supervision of the Resident Engineer and his staff.
        • During the whole of the life of the Project, under the direction of the APP, the respective design and construction teams will record relevant data for compilation into the final close-out report as well as the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
        • During the closing stages of the work the APP will be responsible for the editing of the information into the final format for presentation to the Client.
        • After review of the documents the final drafts will be presented to DWA and the project will be closed.

Feasibility of lines 3 and 4 west and detailed design study of BRT CORE Line 3

Nairobi Metropolis (capital of Kenya, 4 million inhabitants, 8 predicted in 2045) experiences a rapid growth while suffering from heavy traffic jams and from a low-structured public transport supply.

To solve these issues, a BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) Network has been planned since 2014 by the Government of the Republic of Kenya.

The study focused on the lines 3 (27km) and 4 west (7km).

It included, during the first phase (2015-2016) an opportunity & feasibility study and during the second phase (2016-2019) a detailed design for a high-priority route of 12.5km: BRT Core Line 3.

          Characteristics:

          • High-capacity BRT concept (16 000 pphpd): operation with high frequency (1bus/45 seconds) and multi-docking bays platforms, overtaking lanes, traffic management at intersections with elevated structures at major crossings.
          • 2 vehicles standard options considered: high-floor (~90cm) and low-floor (~35cm).

Description of actual services provided by INGEROP staff within the assignment:

The cross-border section of the Lyon-Turino railway line is a new railway line of about 67 km linking Saint Jean de Maurienne in France to Suze in Italy and Bussoleno where it connects to the historic Turino-Modane line. In particular, the line requires the excavation of a 57.5 km single-track twin-tube tunnel known as the “Montcenis base tunnel”.

On the French side, the civil engineering of the base tunnel is divided into 3 operational worksites.

The construction management of the 08-operating site, led by a consortium formed by Egis tunnels (leader)/ Ingérop/Alpina/Géodata, includes the construction of the following works:

                • The construction of a site platform at Villard Clément at the head of the future French side
                • Preparatory construction for access to the future tunnel head (high-level temporary lining, mass earthworks, special ground reinforcement work),
                • Excavation and lining of the two tubes of the base tunnel and the linking galleries over about 3 km,
                • The construction of a cut-and-cover tunnel about 140 m long at the connection between the entrance to the base tunnel and the cut-and-cover tunnel under the A43 motorway already constructed as part of another construction package,
                • The construction of the networks and water drainage system at the tunnel exit, the backfilling and definitive site installations

                Characteristics

                • Multiple interfaces work with the existing (buildings, infrastructures, networks) and other construction sites of the project (construction civil engineering sites, processing of excavated materials)
                • Carrying out additional geotechnical and topographical studies, ICPE (Classified facilities for Environmental protection) files

The Chilterns Tunnel is a 15.8km bored tunnel. There will be four vent shafts and one intervention shaft located along the proposed line of route – Chalfont St Peter, Chalfont St Giles, Amersham, Little Missenden and Chesham Road. Its southern portal is located near Maple Cross. Its site will also house a compound during construction with all material from the bored tunnel coming here to be treated prior to being used elsewhere along the line of route. The northern portal is adjacent to South Heath.
