High Speed 2 (HS2), the high-speed rail project linking London and Birmingham in the United Kingdom, is designed to reduce journey times between the UK’s two largest cities by 30 minutes once completed.

Ingerop and its UK subsidiary, Rendel, carried out the design work for Lot C1 as part of Align-D – a joint venture with Jacobs and Align (Bouygues Travaux Publics, VolkerFitzpatrick and Sir Robert McAlpine).

HS2 C1 consists of 23.9km of high speed rail infrastructure. This section includes the 3.4km Colne Valley Viaduct; a 16km twin-bored tunnel; five vent shafts handling both intervention and tunnel ventilation facilities; and the South Heath Cutting, a 2km cutting consisting of a foot bridge, road bridge and an over bridge.

The scheme design was carried out using BIM.
