Located in the heart of the Pyrenees, the Somport railway tunnel represents a strategic link between Spain and France, connecting Huesca to Nouvelle-Aquitaine. At 7.9 kilometres long and reaching depths of up to 850 metres, it was the longest railway tunnel in Spain for many years and remains a powerful symbol of FrancoSpanish cooperation to this day.
The refurbishment project aims to modernise the infrastructure, enhance safety and performance, and support the revival of international rail links. As part of a consortium, Ingerop is responsible for providing ADIF with detailed designs and technical support, drawing on its expertise in track, superstructure, systems, electrification and safety. The company’s French and Spanish railway teams are also involved, thereby demonstrating Ingerop’s international expertise.
