HS2 Phase 1 is a new high-speed railway line in the UK spanning 225km from London to Birmingham. Contract Lot C1 as part of HS2 Phase 1 was awarded to ALIGN JV. This section includes 21.6 km of high-speed rail and features a viaduct, a twin-bored tunnel, engineering earthworks, two highway overbridges, one footbridge and a green overbridge.

The emblematic Colne Valley Viaduct is a 3.4km-long viaduct with approach embankments, from the Northolt Tunnel at the southern end of the Colne Valley Regional Park to the Chilterns at the northern edge. It is located in a diverse and continuously changing landscape of water bodies intertwined with woodlands, spanning major obstacles such as roads and a canal.

The Chiltern Tunnel comprises twin bored tunnels under an area of outstanding natural beauty, with each tunnel 16km long. It includes five intervention shafts, four of which are also ventilation shafts, along the line.

Rendel/Ingerop provided tender, scheme, detailed design and construction phase support to the Design-and-Build Construction Joint Venture ALIGN JV.
