84th ICOLD Annual Meeting / 15-20 May
Johannesburg has been selected as the venue for the 84th ICOLD Annual Meeting. This is an internationally acclaimed meeting and one that is attended by well-respected and renowned individuals and companies from within the Dam and Water Industry.

The general feel for the ICOLD/SANCOLD Conference this year followed themes of Social and Environmental impacts and mitigation measures but mostly focused on Dams where they have been looking at advances in rehabilitation, operation optimisation of dams, proper surveillance of dams and state of the art of tailings of dams. Additionally there were themes of sustainable hydropower development.

The Organising Committee of the South African National Committee (SANCOLD) has been hard at work at ensuring a high technical content for the meeting by way of one-day technical tours, symposium and workshops, exhibition and study tours.

  • Practical lessons learnt from the rehabilitation of spillway gates at Cahora Bassa Dam

Poster Presentation:

  • Hazelmere Dam Raising
  • Controlled demolition techniques during raising of the Hazelmere Dam spillway in Kwa-Zulu Natal South Africa
  • Refurbishment of the Phalaborwa Barrage
