Project JRTR

JAEC (Jordan Atomic Energy Comission)

Assistance to project management in the realization phase

As part of its civilian nuclear program aimed at generating electricity and desalinating seawater, Jordan is building a 5 MW thermal research reactor at the Jordan University of Science and Technology in Irbid. With its optimized neutron flux, the reactor will be used for doping semiconductors, producing medical radioisotopes, and training Jordanian scientists and engineers.

The reactor is a pool type, constructed by the DAEWOO-KAERI consortium according to the model of the Hanaro research reactor, Canadian at the base and developed in Korea.

It will be operated by the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC). The IAEA has asked JAEC to work with an international consultant for better management of the project.
