UPGRADING OF NATIONAL ROUTE 2, PROVINCE OF KWAZULU-NATAL, SOUTH AFRICA
Ingerop South Africa in joint venture with Knight Piesold have been appointed by The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) for the full Engineering Services, including detailed design, construction monitoring and close up report, for the doubling of 20 km section of the existing National Route N2, between Umtentweni and Hibberdene interchanges, in the province of Kwazulu-Natal.

The project consists of the construction of a new carriageway freeway alongside the existing 2-lane single carriageway freeway. The overall project includes 14 existing bridges (of which 6 across rivers) and 13 major culverts structures (of which 5 across rivers) to be extended or new structures to be constructed to accommodate traffic to the new carriageway. Among new structures to be constructed along the new carriageway, there will be a 180 m long bridge across Mzumbe River. The provisional programme consists of 12 month design period followed by 60 month construction period.
