GRANADA, SPAIN: THE LIGHT RAIL IS UP AND RUNNING
After Seville and Malaga, Granada opens a tram with underground sections

Granada is the third city in Andalusia, after Seville and Málaga, to open a tram with underground sections (‘metro ligero’). The metropolitan area has a population of around 500,000 inhabitants.

In Granada, INGEROP has carried out the complete design of 16 km of light rail lines including 3 km in tunnels. The light rail serves 26 stops with three underground stations in central Granada and also includes maintenance facilities and garages.
It links the suburbs of Albolote and Maracena in the north to Campus de la Salud and Armilla in the south.
With a cost of 500 million euros, it is amongst the most significant light rail lines in Europe.

INGEROP worked in Granada from 2004 to 2018 and throughout the steps of preliminary design, detailed design, works supervision, test and commissioning and operation. Granada municipality asked INGEROP to help them organize the test operation and the training of the drivers operating the light rail.
