Arcora has designed the atypical envelope, with heavy marble bands supported by a wall-curtain made of glass and aluminium. One of the special features is the reverse use of structural glazing with the smooth side on the internal side. This one of a kind massive marble envelope, a first of a kind for Arcora, gives a powerfully monumental character to the building.
The cultural centre displays a 900-seat opera-theatre, a 200-seat multifunction auditorium, a 200-seat open-air amphitheatre, a restaurant, an exhibition space and a conference centre. Imagined like a living membrane, this impressive façade reflects the Onassis Foundation’s spirit of openness to the city and the world.
