Marseille (13)Construction of "Les Calanques" housing units - Îlot Sainte Adelaïde - ZAC St Just
The project consists of construction of a housing project in the St Just district of Marseille, on the Isle Ste Adelaïde, near the General Council building.
The project takes on the shape of the islet by creating a central garden with lush vegetation and a massive apparent concrete structure, reminiscent of cliffs.
The main exterior façade, facing the highway, is curved and consists of acoustically powerful bays as well as a characteristic corrugated blue siding. The whole is kinetic and effective.
The façades on the garden side are much more domestic with large sliding glazed chassis opening onto generous balconies, equipped with wide blinds.
SPECIFICITIES
A major challenge of this project was to reconcile an undeniable quality of architecture, remaining within the budgets inherent to the social construction in Marseilles. In order to achieve this, an important investigative work was carried out bye the Jean Nouvel Atelier to retain the most effective solutions possible.
For example, PVC frames with industrial cladding were chosen for the facade facing the highway, whereas large sliding panels with 6 panels and central opening were preferred to ensure access to the balconies.
Moreover, this work had to be carried out while respecting the other important aspects of the project: optimal acoustic comfort and comfort in the summer, functionality and robustness of services, Habitat and Environment Certificates.
Project realised by ARCORA.
