Abidjan Urban rail line

Africa has the world’s fastest-growing population and Ivory Coast is experiencing the same expansion with a rise of 27% in the past decade to 23 million inhabitants. With an industrial port and commercial attractiveness, its booming capital of Abidjan has a population in increase of 5 million and suffers from increasing traffic congestion problems.

The French Korean Consortium Bouygues, Dongsan, Hyundai Rotem and Keolis signed an agreement with the government of Ivory Coast for the first phase of a design, build, operate and maintain contract for an urban rail line in Abidjan. The proposed project would involve construction of a 37 km of rail line from Abidjan's international airport in the south of the city through the city center to its northern suburbs, hence transporting an estimated 300,000 passengers a day.

INGEROP has been appointed to perform the outline design and the preliminary design services.
Expected to be executed over less than 6 years and with an estimated cost of around 1 billion Euros, the project involves three phases:
-    phase 1: 25 km between Marcory and Abobo nord,
-    phase 2: Southern extension, towards Vridy (6 km) and FHB airport (4km),
-    phase 3: Northern extension, towards Anyama.
